Concreteworks Studio Inc. Proposition 65 Statement

Proposition 65 warnings can be found on many manufacturer’s products, product description pages and/or packaging.  These warnings are the result of the California State Law referred to as the California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, also commonly known as Proposition 65 or Prop 65.  Proposition 65 may be best defined as a “Right to Know” law and is not an indication that a product is violating any safety standards or regulations.

 At Concreteworks, we take the safety and health of our employees and our customers very seriously. We have always protected the health of our associates and the environment, not because of any law or award or recognition, but because it is the right thing to do. We strive each day to be known not only for our beautiful and high quality products but for our integrity in how we conduct business.  

Although our concrete products themselves do not contain any chemicals on the Prop 65 list, some of the ingredients in the sealers, paints and stains used on our concrete, wood and steel products do.  Although this law only requires businesses to make Prop 65 information available to California residents, we have included the appropriate warnings on any applicable product pages of our website to ensure that all of our customers are fully informed prior to making a purchase.  

What is Proposition 65?

The purpose of Prop 65 is to ensure that the public is informed about the potential exposure to chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.  The original intent of the law was to protect drinking water sources from chemical contamination. However, since 1986 the scope of the law has grown to over 900 chemicals including a wide range of naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals that include additives or ingredients in pesticides, common household products, food, drugs, dyes, or solvents.  The law requires companies to provide a warning on their products and/or packaging if their products contain one or more of these listed chemicals.

What does a Proposition 65 warning mean?

If a warning is placed on a product label or posted or distributed at a workplace, a business, or in rental housing, the business issuing the warning is aware or believes that it is exposing individuals to one or more listed chemicals.  A warning must be given unless it can be demonstrated scientifically that the chemical poses “no significant risk.” For chemicals that can cause cancer, for example, the “no significant risk” level is defined as the level which is calculated to result in not more than one excess case of cancer in 100,000 individuals exposed over a 70-year lifetime.
